Inclement Weather

In the event that it becomes necessary to close schools for the entire day because of inclement weather (snow or heat), the announcement will be made no later than 6:30 a.m. through the following media sources: WTTR, Channel 21 and Channel 3 (Westminster); WHVR/WYCR (Hanover); WGET (Gettysburg); WFMD (Frederick); WBAL, WCAO, WRBS, WPOC, WMIX, WMAR-TV, WJZ-TV, WBAL-TV, WQSR, WWLG AM, WASA, WANN, V103 (Baltimore); WMAL, WTOP, Fox Channel 5 , WRC-TV4, WUSA Channel 9, and WJLA-TV (Washington, D.C.), WCRH (Williamsport), WAFY-KEY 103, WXTR (Washington). If weather conditions are such that the opening of schools might be delayed one (1) hour or more, or it becomes necessary to close all schools early, the notification will be made through the same stations as for the closing of schools. Inclement weather will affect the Career and Tech, PREP, PRE-K, and EIK programs in the following ways:

SCHOOL OPENING DELAYED ONE (1) HOUR

  • Career & Tech program shortened by one (1) hour. 
  • AM and PM PRE-K program canceled. 
  • A.M. PREP and EIK programs shortened by one (1) hour. 
  • P.M. PREP and EIK programs on regular schedule.

SCHOOL OPENING DELAYED MORE THAN ONE (1) HOUR

  • Career and Tech on adjusted schedule. Specific details may be obtained from the home school.
  • AM and PM PRE-K program canceled.
  • PREP and EIK programs run on an adjusted schedule. Specific details may be obtained from the home school.

SCHOOL CLOSING TO BE ONE (1) HOUR EARLIER THAN USUAL

  • Career and Tech program shortened by one hour. 
  • A.M. PREP, EIK, and PRE-K on a regular schedule. 
  • P.M. PREP and EIK and PRE-K shortened by one (1) hour.

SCHOOL CLOSING TO BE TWO (2) HOURS EARLIER THAN USUAL

  • Career and Tech program on adjusted schedule. Specific details may be obtained from the home school.
  • AM PRE-K will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m.
  • A.M. PREP and EIK on regular schedule. 
  • P.M. PREP, EIK and PRE-K canceled.

SCHOOL CLOSING TO BE THREE (3)HOURS EARLIER THAN USUAL

  • Career and Tech program will dismiss at 11:00 a.m.
  • PRE-K will be dismissed at 10:00 a.m. 
  • A.M. PREP and EIK remain at school and are dismissed with special needs runs. 
  • P.M. PREP, EIK and PRE-K canceled.

Pupils and parents are urged not to call radio stations or the Transportation Services
Department Office to inquire about school closing and bus service. Phone calls delay the Transportation Services Office staff in contacting local media outlets that make weather related announcements. On days when schools are closed or there is an early dismissal because of inclement weather, school activities scheduled for that evening as well as the Adult Evening Program Classes will be canceled.
