 Early Childhood News & Updates

 

Kindergarten registration for the 2010-2011 school year will take place in elementary schools during the week of March 22.  Parents will need to present the following at the time of registration:

1. Identification of parent/legal guardian (driver's license or court document indicating guardianship)

2. A copy of the child's birth certification/registration or legal document to verify the child's birth date and name (must be age 5 prior to September 1 to enroll)

3. Verification of residence int he form of a public utility bill such as BGE or Allegheny Power, a land-line phone bill, mortgage statement, or signed lease agreement which includes the address and signature page.

To complete enrollment, you will need both the Health Assessment and Immunization Certificate, which will be included in the enrollment packet you receive.

 

Applications for Early Entrance to kindergarten will be available at the schools during kindergarten registration.  All children applying for early entrance must be age 5 by October 1, 2010.  

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAMS:

 

The Carroll County Public Schools’ Early Childhood Programs include Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, and Judy Center which includes Parents As Teachers (PAT).  All Early Childhood Programs follow curriculums that are aligned with the Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR).

 

Judy Center Partnership of Carroll County is a MSDE state funded initiative to promote school readiness for children birth through five years of age and their family.  

 

Kindergarten is a full day program provided for students who live in Carroll County and reach the age of 5 prior to September 1

PreKindergarten provides direct instruction for students who are income-eligible and four years old.

 

PAT (Parents As Teachers) is a program for parents and children, ages birth through 5 where they participate in learning how to help their children develop school readiness skills.

 

MMSR (Maryland Model for School Readiness) is an assessment and instructional system designed to provide parents, teachers, and early childhood providers with a common understanding of what children know and are able to do upon entering school.
